Portugal has implemented a significant policy change regarding birthright citizenship. Children born in Portugal to parents holding permanent residency for at least one year can now acquire citizenship through birthright.
This is a very nice development with strategic importance. Combined with Portugal’s existing Golden Visa Program, this change positions the country competitively within European immigration frameworks, effectively creating an indirect pathway to citizenship.
This will push Portugal to the top of the list in terms of permanent residency and citizenship programs (through the backdoor).
